Boston Red Sox

Boston Red Sox Dave rotella

Back in 1976 my family went to Cambridge, Mass to visit some of our family members. It was that year that I visited the legendary Fenway Park for the first time. Louis Tiant on the mound, the great Carl Yastremski, my all-time favorite Dwight "Dewey" Evans, Jim Rice and Fred Lynn in the outfield and Carlton "Pudge" Fisk behind the plate. I fell in love with that team and have been a Sox fan ever since. I lived through the tough times (Pedro blowing game 6, Bucky Dent's homer, Bill Buckner's gaff against the Mets in the World Series). It seemed for a time that there really was a curse on the Red Sox. But in 2004 that all changed. On June 27, 2004 Evan James Rotella was born and pronounced the Bambino to break the Curse of the Bambino (proclaimed by me, but proclaimed nonetheless).

On October 27, 2004 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis the Red Sox completed a sweep of the Cardinals with a 3-0 win and with my little Bambino by my side I popped the champagne as the curse was finally broken after 86 long years! And broken it was as we have gone on to win 2 more in the 11 years my little Bambino has been on this planet. Not bad considering my grandfather lived his entire life without seeing his Red Sox win a World Series!
